Eleanor Lamb occupies a unique position in the tragedy of Rapture. Born into the city, she was groomed by Sofia Lamb as a vessel for genetic perfection and ideological control. Her mother sought to use Eleanor's potential connection to the ADAM gene therapy to unite humanity under a collective mind. However, it is Subject Delta who recognizes that keeping Eleanor trapped within Rapture would lead only to suffering or death when the city inevitably collapsed. The mission highlights the conflict between Sofia Lamb's utilitarian philosophy and the bond formed between a Big Daddy and his Little Sister. As the canonical protagonist of BioShock 2, Subject Delta navigates the ruins of Rapture, protecting Eleanor from her mother's forces and other threats. This act severs Sofia Lamb's hold over her daughter. In every canonical ending of BioShock 2, while Eleanor successfully escapes to the surface to live a normal life, Subject Delta sacrifices himself to ensure her safety, dying within the depths of the city.
