The Little Sisters
Tragic children transformed into living conduits of power, guarded by the city's most terrifying protectors.
The Little Sisters are young girls who have been genetically altered to harvest ADAM from the corpses of deceased Splicers in Rapture's underwater depths. Under the supervision of their protectors, the Big Daddies, these children serve as the primary source of genetic material for the city's citizens, creating a tragic cycle of addiction and dependency that defines much of Rapture's collapse. Initially presented as innocent victims manipulated by Andrew Ryan's vision gone wrong and later Frank Fontaine's schemes, they become central to the player's moral dilemma. Their existence represents the ultimate cost of unchecked scientific ambition, forcing the protagonist to choose between saving them or exploiting their biological potential for power.

Lore & Background
Created through a dark collaboration between Frank Fontaine and Brigid Tenenbaum, the Little Sisters were originally intended to be a method for extracting ADAM without killing the host. However, the process required the subjects to be in a state of suspended animation or death, leading to the grim reality where they scavenge corpses to pull out the genetic material. The girls are physically altered, often displaying glowing eyes and a connection to the ADAM within them, which allows them to heal themselves and manipulate their environment. Their relationship with the Big Daddies is symbiotic yet deeply tragic; while the fathers are genetically bonded to protect them at all costs, the girls are essentially prisoners of the system. In the narrative, they serve as a moral barometer for the player's actions. Choosing to rescue them breaks the cycle of exploitation, turning them into allies who share their ADAM willingly, whereas harvesting them perpetuates the cruelty that destroyed Rapture.
In Their Own Story
The water dripped rhythmically from the ceiling, echoing in the abandoned hallway where the little girl stood huddled against a wall. Her eyes glowed with an eerie amber light, reflecting the dim emergency bulbs flickering above. Behind her loomed the massive silhouette of her father, his drill humming softly as he scanned the darkness for threats. She wasn't afraid; she was waiting. The scent of decay and ozone filled her nose, guiding her toward the pile of bodies nearby. With a soft hum that sounded almost like a lullaby, she reached out a small hand to touch the lifeless face of a Splicer, the golden fluid beginning to pulse within her veins as the city's dark magic took hold once more.
Reader's Guide
The Little Sisters function less as a traditional faction and more as a biological resource and moral focal point within Rapture. Their primary goal is survival and the collection of ADAM, driven by genetic conditioning and the protection of their Big Daddy guardians. Members consist solely of young girls who have undergone the Fontaine Tenenbaum procedure. They are not organized politically but operate in pairs or small groups with their respective protectors across various sectors of the city, from the Medical Pavilion to the Arcadia Gardens. In the conflict between Ryan's Objectivism and the player's intervention, they represent the innocent collateral damage of the war. Their role is pivotal: they hold the key to the player's power progression. The faction dynamic shifts based on the player's choice; if rescued, they become a supportive network that aids in the fight against the Splicers, effectively turning the city's greatest tragedy into its salvation.

- Rescued Little Sisters can be found in safe houses throughout Rapture, often playing with toys or reading books to maintain some sense of childhood.
- The process of harvesting ADAM from a corpse is painless for the dead but requires the genetic sensitivity only a modified child possesses.
