Lore & Background
Following Andrew Ryan's death in the first BioShock, Sofia Lamb and her followers took charge of Rapture. She capitalized on the chaos of the civil war to establish a collectivist order, contrasting sharply with Ryan's individualism. Her group utilized the city's remaining resources and the psychological conditioning of its citizens to maintain control. The central tenet of her plan involved Eleanor, who was separated from Subject Delta in 1958. Lamb intended to use ADAM to absorb the collective memories of Rapture into Eleanor, believing this would forge a leader free from selfishness. This ambition drove the conflict as Delta fought through Splicers and Rapture Family members to reunite with his bonded Little Sister.
In Their Own Story
On New Year's Eve, 1958, Sofia Lamb separated Subject Delta from his Little Sister, Eleanor, forcing Delta to kill himself. By 1968, she had Eleanor trapped in her stronghold while planning the mind-transfer ritual. When Delta arrived, captured, and severed from Eleanor via a temporary heart stoppage, Lamb's control began to unravel. She converted Augustus Sinclair into a Big Daddy to block their escape. In the climax, as Delta succumbed to mortal wounds, the player's choices determined her fate: either Eleanor saves her mother or leaves her to drown. If saved, Eleanor absorbs Delta's ADAM and memories; if left, she extracts it for world domination.
Reader's Guide
Sofia Lamb serves as the main antagonist in BioShock 2's single-player campaign. Players must navigate Rapture as Subject Delta to reach her stronghold where Eleanor is held captive. The narrative hinges on the bond between Delta and Eleanor, which Lamb attempts to sever by stopping Eleanor's heart. To progress, players encounter members of Lamb's "Rapture Family," with the option to kill or spare them, influencing the story's outcome. Key mechanics include protecting Little Sisters to gather ADAM for upgrades against Lamb's forces. The final confrontation occurs near an escape pod where Delta is mortally wounded by a trap set by Lamb, leading to one of two endings based on how players treated Little Sisters throughout the game.
